if you are an art fan and appreciate artistic talent then you will just fall in love with saawaariya. SLB has done sth nobody else can do it. He build a make belief city in this film which resembles Doestovsky's white night. And waht a magnificant and magical city this one is. Wow!!!!!

@dewalii his story is based on White Nights by the way.

@sabbirsa
I agree! I absolutely loved this film, most of my friends however preferred that other movie that came out on the same day (i think om shanti om) which was in my opinion another over the top, predictable bollywood film. While finally Saawariya was not only a well made film but a beautiful artistic film.

sabbirsa on Wednesday, June 16, 2010
I thought it was a very well made film. the problem with saawariya was that, it was not a smart idea to make a 3 hour long film based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky, which is a very very short story. So it was like taking an elastic band and keep stretching it but at one point its going to rip apart. Other than that, the performances, visuals (breathtaking SLB is truly a visionary), costumes everything was first class. OSO I finally watched and let me tell you I was shocked.

@sabbirsa
I agree white nights is really short. I read white nights a while after Saawariya and could see the limits of its adaptation. SLB did wonders with the set it was beautiful.
Shocked? good shock or bad lol

@sabbirsa
Ohh yes i totally agree with you, i just saw this movie 2 month ago and i think it is magic.

sabbirsa on Wednesday, December 15, 2010
@niteeka11 Yes it was simply magical to see this city on celluloid. its like Doestovsky's White Night City has come to life. SLB is a genius indeed. The film itself was not bad, however taking such a short story and making it into a 2 hr movie is stretching it way too much.

sabbirsa on Monday, December 20, 2010
@sudhan16502 Its not about the actor but about the length and about what inspired the film. Its based on Feodore Doestovski's short story called White Nights. Its a very short story and worth a read however it cannot be made into a 2.5 hr long film. It just stretching an elastic band. You can only stretch the band that far and eventually it will rip apart. Performance wise Ranbir was perfect, Sonam looked stunning and sets were magical. Thats just my opinion.

sudhan16502 on Monday, December 20, 2010
@sabbirsa i respect ur opinion...its our vision for movie...but i didnt know that it was from white night.i will look forward for that...cheers!!!

sabbirsa on Monday, December 20, 2010
@sudhan16502 thank you and I respect yours as well.

sabbirsa on Monday, December 20, 2010
Just look at what SLB has done. Look at the colour combination. Blue with green. Or where sonam is standing -- blue with Purple curtains, green lights on top of the mosque minaret. Breathtakingly beautiful sets. Magical completely magical.

SH7861WeezyBabyy on Sunday, January 16, 2011
@sabbirsa i agree, its pure art, its a pity the mainstream audiences in India didnt think so ..

cthxx on Monday, January 31, 2011
@sabbirsa it really is magnificent that u are pulled right into this fabricated fantastical world n escape ur own dull n dreary one for a few moments, its almost like losing ur self in a book where you forget ur own sense of place and time n are transported into this new realm, slb saawariya is steeped in nostalgia, n the atmosphere created evokes a romantic longing for a long gone era, i am reminded of the black and white golden era of hindi cinema-times were much simpler n life itself subdued

sabbirsa on Tuesday, February 01, 2011
@cthxx Wow!!! I could have said anything better than you. Your explanation brings out the essence of this film. you truly have a fantastic imagination. Keep it up and I hope you something in art so that we all get to enjoy your beautiful imagination on a canvas. Keep it up. Your visions are simply magical as well. :)

cthxx on Tuesday, February 01, 2011
@sabbirsa well thankyou, n i am practicing art so its a real compliment for me:) bt im only stating the facts about the film- well thats the feeling i get whenever watchin it. there is this sense of longing that is ingrained in sakinas and rajs characters and as a viewer there's a real urge to become immersed into that atmospheric world. this film is sheer beauty and fantasy on a glorious scale, its slb best i reckon right behind khamoshi

sabbirsa on Wednesday, February 02, 2011
@cthxx you're welcome. but just by watching the film if you could come up with sth like that then kudos to you. you have a very vivid imagination and you have excellent choice of words. keep it up and well done.

@sabbirsa I LOVE art. That is probably why I LOVE this movie. I like the simplicity of the story and SLB's way of beautifully presenting the story. Every time I watch this movie, I notice things I hadn't noticed before. But too bad not many people appreciate this movie :(
