Are there any fluent Hindi speakers out there who can translate the title for me? I'm just curious. It's probably something innocuous like 'Let's dance.'

Very enjoyable song. Shanker Jaikisan in full form. Laxmi Chhaya as the
leading female dancer is superb. This film "Gumnaam',was the indianised
version of Agatha Christie's '..And then there were none'. had some very
good & popular songs.

Jan pehchaan ho
Jeena aasaan ho
Dil ko churaane waalon
Ankh na churao, naam to batao

(Let us get acquainted
It would make life easier
You who steal our hearts, do not avert your glances
Tell us your name)

i was first introduced to this crazy piece of bollywood film history when i saw the movie "Ghost World", in which this song/video is being played during the opening sequence.

very interesting piece of cinema, even for bollywood.

Let's see, in the U.S. about the same time, we were enjoying The Green
Hornet, Ann Margaret swinging to Elvis in Viva Las Vegas, Beach Movies..and
Go-Go..etc. Jan Pehechan-Ho is really Swingin' Daddy-O! The Masks, the
blazing Brass instruments, the dancers wigging out and the swinging music
must have at one point been an inspiration to a younger Quentin Tarantino.
This clip is right up his alley. Perhaps he's seen it. And BTW, Elvis and
Ann Margaret would be so thrilled by this scene!
