Another Bollywood rip-off from the West!

Another Bollywood rip-off from a Western tune! Badly done at that.

Dee Thakore on Friday, May 09, 2008

This music is done by genius musiician of all times - R.D.Burman

To derubala and wctI75
1 don't care whether the song was copy either from ELVIS OR IBLIS... it is a nice song... and I believe everyone who has watched Aag Gale Laja will agree with me...

Even some western songs also copied from third world country. be matured please!!!

It's stealing! RD Burman didn't pay any royalties to the originator. He
didn't even give them any credit. Good or bad result, its simply wrong and
unethical.

insipid4444 on Tuesday, June 03, 2008
music, thats what matters the most!Intellectual property is hard to define, especially in MUSIC,since the words and tunes are later varied!Burman's music was uniquely Indian/subcontinent,since he also wrote a fantastic amount of original Bengali music based on Tagore. He was a genius who will be missed! He died at an very early age,,AND ALSO ALMOST BROKE...SOhe obviously couldnt have made that much financial gains for his art!
Hence if it wasnt for people like him,,there would be no BOLLYWOOD!

wtc175 on Tuesday, June 03, 2008
Totally irreleant as to the quantity pinched. If YOU were a composer and
someone stole a basic theme you created without acknowledgement or payment
you would not be happy I'm sure. As to Mercedes /Tat etc - well two wrongs
don't make a right. There are avenues to pay people royalties if using
someone else's stuff - we all have to survive and its only fair that we pay
for it - especially as he was no doubt RD was paid quite well for his
composing in films.

wtc175 on Tuesday, June 03, 2008
Ha!Ha! You're right - I don't speak Hindi or Urdu...but I do SING in Hindi.
Also, as a composer I understand fully that it's no different to someone
pinching, say, your prize rose and entering it in a competition and winning
a prize with it. Or making a film of your idea and making money out of it.
Would you think that acceptable? I'm sure you'd not worry about the
benefits to mankind if it was YOUR idea that was pinched. Wrong is wrong
whichever way you look at it.

Heart Relation Happens Naturally This Is what This Song Is For.

wtc175 on Wednesday, June 04, 2008
The thing is, plagiarism is rife within Bollywood music scene - going back
to the 1940's. I think its fine - but have the courtesy to give credit to
the original composer - and pay the royalties necessary - it's not much to
pay actually. This gives recognition to the original composer which is more
important than the money in a lot of cases. Finally we have to ask why the
need to copy? RD, ShankerJaikshan, Lax.Pyrelal, Kal.Anandji etc are all
talented enough without resorting to copying.

madhumass on Sunday, June 15, 2008
It may be better but that still doesn't make it original. I agree, the
pinching in this tune is lesser than the blatant copying seen in many other
B'wood composers.

sidthegr8est on Monday, July 07, 2008
ummm...well it's a song..basically
just stop arguing over it...i like the song and so many others do too...that should'nt taint the original in any way

1ST OF ALL
life isnt fair
everyone copies each others work! its better to get over it than fighting over. its not like its gonna change

mahbub2345 on Sunday, July 13, 2008
Copying is disgusting. Though the tune is superb, credit must go to elvis priestley

curiousthinker on Monday, July 14, 2008
its nothing like yellow roses of taxes!!! what are u talking about not the theme or the tune.

This is an ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER song. I like this song from very early.
But...I believe...after the Movie "Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na" released ...the
song become more popular. Hats off to R. D. Burman and the team of the
Movie..."Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na".

i lvv dat song...thnxx alottttt

squ34ky on Friday, August 29, 2008
Thank you wtc175 for exposing this blatant plagiarism. For those who don't
know, the main tune for this song is a complete rip-off of an old American
folk song called "Yellow Rose of Texas". Yes, the great RD Burman stole
this tune without acknowledging it's origins. Don't believe me? Then watch
this video: youtube(dot)com/watch?v=EXyVENc05_c .

Have you even heard the video your touting to be the source of all
creativity !!

squ34ky on Tuesday, October 21, 2008
Don't mangle my words. I didn't say it was the source of all creativity,
but that the song was the uncredited inspiration for the main melody in
this song. And yes, I have seen it. It is but one version of this popular
folk song. It seems Youtube has put a space in the video id when I posted
the comment. Here it is again (hopefully: watch?v=EXyVENc05_c

sanjayupadhyayraj on Wednesday, October 22, 2008
I apologize for the ``creativity'' comment. I did figure out the address of
the song and did listen to it before posting my comment. So to reiterate:
``The yellow rose of Texas'' does not remind me of ``Tera Mujhse Hai''. In
fact, if I hear the Yellow Rose, although familiar I would never guess that
it is a precursor to ``Tera Mujhse''.

Amazingly true song..really touched my heart.. :)

qaisarcom on Sunday, March 15, 2009
thats really true jan oOo.oOo. Its not what i am doing its what is
happening! out of my control, i don`t know why i am always thinking about
and why i felt from our first meeting that i know you from long ago? Do you
know why is that? because i have no idea about it

himanv on Monday, March 16, 2009
well, to be fair, only the repeating stanzas pick the "Yellow Rose of
Texas" theme, and that too not in the lyrics of the song, just its rythmic
layout. But you're right, it's amazing, this "inspiration"! hehe

himanv on Monday, March 16, 2009
Owing to the use of ballad meter, the lyrics are interchangeable with those
of many other songs and poems. It's no big deal that Burman didn't
acknowledge the origin, since the origin is a folk song, not one
attributable to anybody in particular. Got it? Stop bashing a good
bollywood song, and a great Indian musician.
