Lyrics / Video of Song : Nuktacheen Hai Gham-e-dil Usko Sunaye Na Bane

aa aa aa

nuktaachi hai, gam-e-dil usako sunaaye na bane
usako sunaaye na bane
kyaa bane baat jahaan baat banaaye na bane
nuktaachi hai, gam-e-dil

gair phirataa hai liye yun tere khat ko ke agar
ko_i puchhe ke ye kyaa hai to chhupaaye na bane
nuktaachi hai, gam-e-dil

mai bulaataa to hun usako magar ai jazbaa-e-dil
us pe ban jaaye kuchh aisi ki bin aaye na bane -2
nuktaachi hai, gam-e-dil

ishq par zor nahi hai ye vo aatish gaalib -2
ki lagaaye na lage aur bujhaaye na bane
nuktaachi hai, gam-e-dil usako sunaaye na bane

Hello Yuan and thank you. What a voice Suraiyya had?? Lovely. Too bad she got swept under the rug. All songs of Mirza Ghalib were excellent. All were Ghazals by Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib except two which were penned by Shakeel Badayuni. One was a Qawwali by Rafi & Chorus and the other was a song sung by Sudha Malhotra who used to be song writer Sahir Ludhianvi's girlfriend for quite some time.

Grace and dignity, charm and ada, thy name is Suraya! Unmatched performance till date; no one can replace her from the high pedestal she climbed to, much ahead of her time. Feelings and ethos she could impart in this rendition is flawless: pitch of her voice blending so smoothly with an excellent background music and lyrics by Ghalib, what a combo really! You always want to hear it one more time even before the current form is yet to finish! Very very lovely clip, so much appreciated. Thanks.

dr. sarfaraz niazi has written a volumous book, translating ghalibs poetry(though i personally dont agree with many a tranlations) a meaning is reproduced for you,A CAVILLER IS,IT IS DIFFICULT TO MAKE HER LISTEN TO THE HEARTS WOES/WHAT SUCCESS COULD I POSSIBLY HAVE IF I COULD NOT EVEN STATE THEM CRAFTILY.he explains further the beloved incessantly critisizes the lover, the interruptions make it difficult for him to make a coherent presentation to her,he laments how things will work out if he

In the recorded history of ghazal singing and particularly of Ghalib, Kundal Lal Saigal was perhaps was the first and foremost. Begum Akhtar continued the genre. They were certanly the legends, as they din'ne merely sang the words but the thought expressed in the verses. Thereafter, Talat & Suraiya were the greatest and what luminary Ghulam mohammad composed in the film 'Mirza Ghalib' will be written in golden letters, if and when the history of ghazal singing will be written.

First two lines explained. "Nukta cheen" means to criticize. Who is criticizing? The beloved. "Ghame dil" means the sadness of the heart. In the second line (1)"kya bane baat" means can't succeed in his aim (2)"Baat banana" means to satisfy someone or to answer somebody's complaint. Meaning: As the beloved has the habit of criticizing all the time, I am unable to show him the condition of my sad heart. Because I cannot satisfy him that is why I cannot succeed in my aim.

None of the translations given here capture the true essence of the first line. "NUKTA CHEEN" literally means "nitpicking" or "unnecessarily finding faults" or "prone to asking difficult questions" or "difficult to convince". Therefore, the meaning that emerges is as follows: -" IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONVINCE OR CONSOLE MY WOEBEGONE HEART - I CAN'T GET IT TO LISTEN TO ME..THE PESSIMISTIC NITPICKER HAS RUINED MY LOVE LIFE.

Verse 2 Ghair phirta hai liey yoon tere khat ko keh agar Koi poochhe keh yeh kiya hai? to chhupai na bane "Ghair" means "raqeeb", i.e., rival in love. Meaning: O beloved, my rival is roaming with your letter in such a way that if somebody asks him what it is, he will be forced to reveal your name. This will bring you a bad name. Therefore, refrain to write him any letter in the future.
