Lyrics / Video of Song : Mere Mehboob Tujhe, Meri Mohabbat Ki Kasam (by Lata)

mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
phir mujhe nargisi aankhon ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam

ae mere khwab ki tabir, meri jaan-e-ghazal
zindagi meri tujhe yaad kiye jati hai
raat din mujhko satata hai tassawwur tera
dil ki dhadkan tujhe awaaz diye jati hai
aa mujhe apni sadaao ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam

yaad hai mujh ko meri umr ki pehli wo ghadi
teri aankho se koi jaam piya tha maine
meri rag rag me koi barq si lehrayi thi
jab tere marmari hatho ko chhua tha maine
aa mujhe phir unhi hatho ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam

samne aake zara parda uthha de rukh se
ek yahi mera ilaaj-e-gham-e-tanhayi hai
teri furkat ne pareshan kiya hai mujh ko
ab to mil ja ke meri jaan pe ban aayi hai
dil ko bhuli hui yaado ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
mere mehboob tujhe

It goes both ways - In the movie Arzoo (bewitching Sadhana again) both Rafi and Lata sing the same song - Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan - Lata's was far better. In terms of longevity, Lata outlasted Rafi. Lata is the better singer because she had more range - Rafi's voice doesn't go up very high. But I agree that both are great, and we can be fans of both singers

vlohani: let me take a wild guess and say you are a Rafi fan? What gave you away? That's clouding your judgement a bit. There are a lot of great singers and we can enjoy all of their great songs - Saigal, Mukesh, Lata, Asha, Rafi, Kishore, Manna Dey.

With all due respect to Lataji, her version of this song is no where compared to RafiSaheb's singing. Rafisaheb's singing of this song, as with many other songs he has sung, simply divine.

Everlasting song sung beautifully by lata ji. For some reason, I find that there is more emotion and subtleties in Rafi sahib's version. Does anyone agree?

EXCELENT ,,,,, SOFT ROMANCE

Part III The male version is longer, more "full", and has a greater thrust. When I look back, I tend to think that it was the beginning of the period when great poets were just beginning to use the words "Meri Mehboob", or "Meray Mehboob". Examples : Faiz Ahmed Faiz wrote :"Mujh sey pehli si mohabbat, MERI MEHBOOB naN maaNg". Sahir Ludhianvi said " MERI MEHBOOB kaheeN aur Mila Kar Mujh Sey" i.e. not at Taj Mahal. Shakil Badayuni brought a challenging reply to Sahir's poem. Please see part IV

Part V It used to be somewhat similar to what we we see here in the actions of Johnny Walkjer and the hero. People who did not understand a word of the language, remained motionless until the song was over. Believe me I saw it many times. So, I used to think about those days when my elderly friend, an expert in "classical" music, used to admonish me for my poor taste. Time had given its verdit ! The Rafi version, to begin with, is the original expression of passionate love by a male person.

You ought to be kidding sir, if Rafi's voice can't go very high then all the other singers including Lata shall be doomed to be considered inarticulate. The fact that Rafi version in Arzoo was small doesn't mean that he rendered it inferior to Lata- in fact each and every moment when Rafi sings the song, his command is so much supreme that one can't help marvel at the ease with which he delivers the song. As for range, it is well known Rafi outstrips anyone by miles But no hard feelings intended

@shivisidhu Both Lata and Rafi saab are the ultimate definition of legend. I agree that Rafi saab has poured lot more emotion to the song.. but lata's voice is so awesome that even if she doesn't puts any emotion to the song still she will sound awesome. But that's not the case.. Lata has poured the right amount of emotion into every song she sung creating magic and we are still under her spell. So did Rafi saab. I was as dedicated and professional in my field as they were in the music.
