Surendranathji came into field when Saigal was dominating. Yet he found his
mark with his first song in Deccan queen. Surendra made place for himself
and was very successful.He contributed immensely to cinema as actor and
singer. All his songs are immortal.With time Cinema changed and tastes
changed.Yet Surendraji commanded great popularity and respect.

I totally agree with you. Surendranathji was indeed a complete artist who
sang as well as acted onscreen. His last movie was perhaps Geet Gaya
Pattharon Ne. He brought a certain kind of maturity in his romantic songs
as opposed to passion of New Theatres songs. And it worked very well in
duets with female artistes bringing a restless attitude to the song. Listen
to Tumhi Ne Mujhko Prem Sikhaya. of course the classic Awaz De Kahan Hai
illustrates this perfectly.

Years later Naushad was inspired by this song to compose "Hello Hello Kya
Haal Hai" from Sunhera Sansar (1975).
