I especially love the line.'hum ne jo dekah tha, suna tha, kya bataiy
woh kya tha. sapna selohna tha, khatam toh hona tha, hua' Brilliant lyrics,
and Kishore Kumar's voice really brings out the pain of the song.

What I saw what I heard How am I to say what that was It was a sweet dream
It was bound to finish, it finished Oh heart, come lets drink and sway In
these streets lets wonder It was in these streets I was to lose you, I was
to become destroyed, I am destroyed

huma7586 on Tuesday, June 10, 2008
TRANSLATION: What is this that happened How did it happen, when did it
happen, why did it happen It happened when it happened Forget it, don't
think about it. Why should I make a false complaint So what if my heart
broke It was a toy made of glass Something or other was bound to happen, it
happened

1 of d immortal songs..opps i got goose bumps..

mutinyvizier on Thursday, July 24, 2008
fantastic translation! thanks!

mutinyvizier on Thursday, July 24, 2008
I like how you translated "badnaam" as "destroyed" in the present tense
rather than the past tense as with the previous verses, instead of
"disgraced" or "humiliated" - "destroyed" gets right to the heart of what
he means (LOL!) - again, great job!

ssjumbo2 on Sunday, July 27, 2008
thanks.. don't speak Hindi. Enjoy the song even more

rajeevsaboo on Thursday, September 18, 2008
the phenomenal star of the roaring 70s of bollywood at his best, with the immortal voice of kishore kumar in the " forefront " instead of background, the deadliest combination were,kishore- rajeshkhanna,
kishore- dev anand, kishore- amitabh bachan, with few songs for others like sanjiv kumar topping the list followed by dharmendra etc etc etc.well those were the days, i was just 6 years old in 1970,

sanjushree1 on Thursday, September 18, 2008
excellent songs from this brilliant film. perfect acting.

Prashant Tiwari on Sunday, September 21, 2008
kishoreda's voice is so melancholy here as he softens his rich baritone
sometimes almost to a whisper to convey the emotions of a hearbreak just so
perfectly! (also listen to "yeh jeevan hai" from piya ka ghar - what
modulation!) and the music must be one of panchamda's most subtle - the
very expression of sadness!

Prashant Tiwari on Sunday, September 21, 2008
talking of translations, here is mine. still very rough and faithful to the
original only in spirit, but following a more standard english form. (pls
see next post.)

Prashant Tiwari on Sunday, September 21, 2008
part 1 (youtube isn't allowing me to post it all 1 post): what gloom, what
regret, why a mere heartbreak repent? oh, but a crystal plaything it was -
my heart to suffer this sorrowed end! what i was shown and made to hear -
o, how to paint it unto thee! should've known all golden dreams do soon end
in misery.

Prashant Tiwari on Sunday, September 21, 2008
part 2: now stoned, now in a swoon, i straggle down the course of loss -
these very streets witnessed us part and fell me in disgrace, alas! such
grief upon me befell in vain i try on it to not dwell.

Rajesh Khanna is the one and only Thespian of Indian Cinema who have shown
the world that how to balance the commercial and artistic aspects of cine
medium simultaneously, without going downward, which others like
Dharmendra, Jitendra and especially Amitabh, etc.failed to maintain. Along
with his historic First Superstar image he has proved that he is a
Superactor first and then a Superstar. His versatility in commercial
environment is an example of its own.

my most most favorite movie and song!! Thanks a lot. I have been looking for it.

yo33lo on Wednesday, January 07, 2009
Sorry viveut, I still prefer the earlier translation by huma 7586 (in page 5) for its artistic feel...

for songs, translation may varies but it also has to give us the 'feel' of the meaning to jive in with its melody...

my heart 'breaks' when i read huma's translation while listening to this song... the same effect is not there with ur translation. sorry for my honest comment.
