this is Chitalkar (C.Ramachandra - the music director who sang this song coz talat was not available) and Lata.

What a Song !! Thanks for posting .. You've made my day!

chamogaa on Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Beautiful duet, of course, but also see how sweet and lovely Meena Kumari looks. She had superb talent to boot. That's what makes a true star, and she was one beyond any doubt.

sakha10 on Tuesday, August 12, 2008
This is C. Ramchandra---- [ Chitalkar]. Sachinv is right.

girish613 on Friday, September 26, 2008
Dilip Kumar is much taller than Meena Kumari

girish613 on Friday, September 26, 2008
Sachinv has given wrong information that Chitalkar sang with Lata because Talat was not available.

The truth is just as S. D. Burman always sang a song or two in all the movies he composed music for, Chitalkar also always sang a song or two for the movies he composed music for.

nickkohri on Wednesday, October 01, 2008
I'm afraid both the gentlemen are bit off the truth. The recording session was ready but Talat failed to show up. So with everybody waiting, Chitalkar recorded it himself in his most Talat-like style. After this Talat & CR fell-out with each other, and CR never gave another song to Talat - a sad ending to a long fruitful melodious partnership.

sachinv on Wednesday, October 01, 2008
Dont know the veracity of your information but in any case that still means Talat was not available.

nickkohri on Wednesday, October 01, 2008
CR was really upset because the recording date was set-up and agreed by Talat. This was not a situation where Talat was simply unavailable - it was a big emotional cracker. After this CR switched to Mahendra Kumar for all Talat-style vocal requirements (Stree, Navrang, Anchal etc).

In a powerful, attractive way though, right?

(Not like the awkward way Amitabh dwarfs Jaya and other co-actresses)

Such a sunny romantic song. Everything perfect.

@nickkohri
A sad ending indeed for two very good artists. But C. Ramchandra saab was known to be a very strict person and so never forgave Talat for one lapse on the latter's part

rkoza7 on Sunday, April 04, 2010
@nickkohri
Not Mahendra Kumar but Mahendra Kapoor

nickkohri on Sunday, April 04, 2010
@rkoza7 You know, all these artistes possess inflated egos. And it does not take much for them to get bent out of shape. Behind the scenes shenanigans make for a very interesting situations. Lata vs Rafi; OP Nayyar vs Lata; Manoj Kumar vs Talat; Asha vs Vani Jairam; and so on!!

I entirely agree with you. But due to these egos we the music lovers are the ultimate losers. We miss the chance to listen to their fresh creations once they stop working together.

nickkohri on Saturday, April 10, 2010
@rkoza7 Yes we lost! Just look at OP Nayyar & Sajjad Hussein. Both were music geniuses, but were always fighting with the movie producers - who actually paid their wages! Sajjad quit Hulchul after composing only 3 songs because Producer/Director K. Asif was "advising" him about song sequences! OP gave music for mostly C-grade movies. The big producers just did not want to work with these 2. Naushad spoke highly of Talat - but gave him songs in only 1 movie Babul!

kannensharma on Saturday, May 08, 2010
The male singer is Chitalker. C> Ramchanra himself was a good singer. And he sang for Dilip in a quite a few movies in the 50s.

barsakus on Saturday, May 29, 2010
@kannensharma Got a golden opportunity to sing duet with Lata :)

Murtuza271920 on Sunday, November 14, 2010
The sense of security and joy being depicted by Meena Kumari in the company of her beloved, Dilip Kumar, in the song is marvellous. Everything is so beautiful, the song, the music, the lyrics, the voices and the ambience. At the same time how painful it is to accept that such a golden film era will never return.

Hassu2708 on Sunday, November 21, 2010
Such compositions could never be produced again.

True. Everything nowadays is dominated by generic beats and repetitive lyrics due to the overwhelming demand of commercial music, especially in India. Unfortunate...to say the least. :/

Dilip kumar ir so handsome.
