The love of kin, the world's sweet tide.
Forsaking home, Ayodhya's grace,
A yogi's form, you did embrace.
For him, your brother, your life's own plea,
You staked your soul, eternally.
Arise, dear Lakshman, brother mine.
Before, you fed me, then you'd see,
That I was slumbering peacefully.
Who loved you so, save Ram alone?
Who held more dear, than Ram's own throne?
How could you leave, in heavens bright,
Your cherished soul, to endless night?

Kausalya, Sumitra, in their grief,
They weep and pray, beyond belief.
Poor Urmila's eyes, with sorrow filled,
