Ahimsa's High Priest, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi,
Born on October's second, on Porbandar's land.
In Africa's embrace, by the white's disdain,
"Black Indian," they cried, cast from the train.
This divide of white and black, a wound in the earth,
He vowed to erase, on Truth's sacred berth.
To vanquish oppression, its chains to unwind,
He roused all of India, its spirit to find.
A humble fakir, with Truth as his might,
Shook the British Empire, and brought forth the light.
His plea, a clarion, as foreign cloth burned,
Before Satyagraha, even cannons turned.
Quit India, Quit India, the anthem arose,
Quit India, echoed, as freedom proposed.
In '42 the cry resounded, bold and so true,
Truth’s victory finally shone through,
And the white men departed, back to their land.
Hail to India! Hail Gandhi's name!
January's thirtieth, a tragic, bloody flame.
A bullet's path, piercing the heart's core,
Yet "Ram" escaped the lips, forevermore.
"Vaishnava Jan To," a sacred plea,
To those who feel another's misery.
Who ease the suffering, with compassion's art,
And harbor no pride within the heart,
"Vaishnava Jan To," the purest kind.
