Lyrics of Maine Puchha Chand Se Ke -
maine ye hijaab tera dhundha
har jagah shabab tera dhundha
kaliyo se misaal teri puchhi
phulo ne jawab tera dhundha
maine puchha baag se
falak ho ya jamin, aisa phul hai kahi
aisi may bhi hai kahi
aisa dilnashi koi sher hai kahi
shayar kahe shayari ki kasam, nahi nahi nahi
maine puchha chand se ke
dekha hai kahi mera yar sa hasin
chand ne kaha, chandni ki kasam, nahi nahi nahi
maine puchha chand se
Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Maine Puchha Chand Se Ke
I asked the moon,
"Have you seen, anywhere, my beloved's face so fair?"
The moon replied, by the light it wears, no, no, never.
I asked the moon,
"Have you seen, anywhere, my beloved's face so fair?"
The moon replied, by the light it wears, no, no, never.
I asked the moon,
I searched for your veil,
found it everywhere, your youthful grace.
I asked the buds for your likeness,
the flowers sought your face.
I asked the gardens,
in heavens or on earth, such a bloom, is it there?
The garden said, by every bud's sweet kiss, no, no, never.
I asked the moon,
Your gait, a river's flowing ease,
Your tresses, a night's dark decree.
Your lips, mirrors to the lotus' bloom,
Your eyes, the queen of revelry.
I asked the cup, in heavens or on earth,
such wine, is it there?
The cup declared, by intoxication's sway, no, no, never.
I asked the moon,
The beauty you possess,
steals God's own artistry.
Shall I call you a ghazal of Mir?
A quatrain of Khayyam's decree?
I questioned poets,
such a heart-stealing verse, is it there?
The poet said, by poetry's soul, no, no, never.
I asked the moon,
"Have you seen, anywhere, my beloved's face so fair?"
The moon replied, by the light it wears, no, no, never.
I asked the moon.

Sholay48 on Friday, April 18, 2008 psycho2101. I completely agree with your comments. Those 6 years were very
painful for music lovers. It was one of the biggest waste ever in the
history of indian music. It was a betrayal not to Rafi but to all music
lovers. We were all deprived of this talent. It was like locking all your
wealth in a box and not using a penny from it. After his death they all
realized that no money in the world could buy and bring back those 6
precious years. I consider their action as a big crime.
spsyed on Saturday, July 31, 2010 Rafi sahib passed away 30 years ago (31 July 1980), but his legend lives on as his voice still continues to entertain and amaze millions around the world. No one replaced humble, modest and pious Rafi sahib. He changed Indian film playback and music industry forever. He is a book on how to sing. His playback voice changed the fate of most Indian film actors, and made them superstars of their time. I am honoured to have met him, be his family's neighbour in London-UK. RIP Mohammed Rafi.
Nisha Sachdeva on Saturday, January 26, 2008 R.D.Burman got his initial career boost through Rafi. Thereafter, for some
unexplained reason, he practically forgot Rafi for about 6 years(first half
of the seventies). Thereafter, increasing competition made him probably
realize his folly and he reverted back to Rafi. This superb song is an
outcome of the homecoming. Alas,it was shortlived because the world's
greatest singer passed away unexpectedly in 1980.
Venkatesh Iyer on Saturday, October 22, 2011 look at the level of uncertainty , the nervousness in simply choosing to
live naturally , the lack of realization about one's identity and the
ensuing dishonesty in debate here. in the background of some of the best
music that time chose to produce through her chosen few , panchamda ...
dada , i regret the fact that ur musical genius is wasted on deaf ears ,
through pointless argument... RIP always...
