"A day will come," it whispers, "when I shall trample you, you know."
All who arrive must depart, king, beggar, or sage,
One ascends the throne, another bound in life's cage.
Do not torment the weak, whose sighs are a burning pyre,
A silent breath can consume even iron with fire.
Watching the grinding mill, Kabir wept with a sigh,
Between the two stones, nothing remains to fly.
In sorrow, all remember, in joy, none truly pray,
If in joy we remembered, sorrow would fade away.
A leaf falls from the branch, the wind carries it afar,
Separated now, when shall we meet, beneath what distant star?
Kabir, let yourself be deceived, but deceive no other soul,
Deceiving yourself brings peace, deceiving others takes its toll.
