I am very impressed by rafi in this duet. The way this duet has been
composed, rafi had to keep his range low on purpose so that lata would not
be out classed in range. The music had to go as high as lata's range would
go. Rafi could go much higher, as he has done elsewhere, in songs like too
Ganga ki mauj, o dunya key rakhwaley and hundreds of other songs. Rafi was
a gift to music and I have not heard any body like him, even amongst the

Laxmikant and Pyarelal--Mandolin and Tabla players were the assistants to
Adinarayana Rao when he composed the songs for Swarna Sundari and recorded
them at Bombay ( Mumbai). Bharat Vyas penned the lyrics to many songs the
tunes of which were already ready in the original Suvarna Sundari made in
Telugu produced by Adinarayana Rao himself with his wife and heroin of the
film Anjali Devi. After the songs, particularly this Raaga Malika was
recorded, it stunned all the established legendary MDs

Beautiful song by Mohd. Rafi Lata Mangeshkar in movie Suvarna Sundari a
Hindi version of original Telugu movie by same name. Credit also due to Adi
Narayan Rao, Music Director of original Telugu version and remake in Hindi
and Tamil versions that followed. Credit also due to Pandit Bharat Vyas for
beautiful lyrics to suit the original tunes which are in four raagas. This
song is always favourite of mine. Thanks for making this song available.

Where from Adinaryana Rao could have got Yesudas in 1959? Manna Da,s voice
never suited the regular heroes. He himself acknowledged umpteen number of
times that Rafi was a better singer and he all his remained and still
remains a fan of Rafi saab. Listen to Rafi saab's gamaks in the first
stanza tuned in Raag Sohini and the melody he poured through his voice in
the last stanza based on Yaman Kalyan. None is comparable to Rafi saab.
