During the 1950's OP Nayyar threatened the popularity of many of the well
established composers of his time. They pushed to have him boycotted and
forced out of the industry. All India radio also stopped playing his songs
under pressure from these influential chaps in the industry. Even many
playback singers refused to sing his songs to join in the boycott (one of
them being lata mangeshkar). It was Shamshad Begum who came forth and told
OP that she would sing his songs and make him famous again

Thanks for this beautiful hilarious upload. What matters most to me is the
interesting and knowledgeable comments that make me known of the performers
and singers otherwise I would have been puzzled in knowing who is the girl
garbed in man's wearing. Thanks to Sabbrisa also for letting us know who
the brawny man-like woman was (Kumar vishwajeet). This upload filled my

one very interesting thing i would like to mention: a few days ago when i
came to know that harmonium is not of indian origin, i was shocked,
literally. this looks so indian. in any other country i dont think, they
roam around like this(hanging it in neck) ... also sometime before when i
came to knew that potato and tomato were not indian origin, i was shocked
too. we have made them our own literally.

Now since All India radio did not play his songs, they were broadcasted
through Ceylon radio (Sri Lanka) and Asha Bhonsle was also asked to sing
his songs. Thus he came back and became even more popular than before. So
OP Nayyar always had a special place for Shamshad Begum.
