When dharma falters, and sin takes its hold,
The Lord descends, a story to be told.

When Kansa's tyranny oppressed the earth,
When priests were scorned, and virtue lost its worth,
When nature wept, and shattered was the ground,
Then Devaki's womb, an eighth child did abound.
Vasudeva, then, his infant son did bear,
From Mathura to Gokul, with utmost care.
The world rejoiced, in cradle did He swing,
As tales of his childhood joyfully did ring.

When Yashoda saw, her Kanha, clay did eat,
And in His mouth, the universe, complete,
Krishna revealed to his mother’s loving gaze,
The cosmos vast, in wonder and in amaze.
He broke the pots, stole butter, oh so sweet,
Krishna, the thief, with nimble, dancing feet.
On Yamuna's shore, he stole the gopis' clothes,
And Baka's death, the mighty Krishna chose.
The black serpent's poison, Garg’s song of praise,
As Shyam, Shyam, filled the echoing days.

To save Braj, the forest fire, He did drink,
And Mathura, Gokul, Vrindavan, He did link,
When Indra's pride and the sacrifice was denied,
The anger of the Lord then had it’s stride.

Lotus on His shoulder, flute in His hand,
With peacock crown, in this sacred land.
Gopal, ??, a loving heart to see,
When the Raga is played, and the soul is free.
When Ras was danced, the flute played its sweet tune,
He showed us the difference, of woman and man, under the moon.
As the Banshi called, Sudarshan it did cast,
A mighty warrior died, and had his last.
When the pot of sin was filled to the brim,
The people of Mathura saw the light within.
Then the destruction of Kansa, by Krishna's hand,
The world with joy, the dance of love began.
Each atom danced, the heavens showered flowers,
Who hears the story, is saved in these hours.
