Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Hanuman Chalisaa
With dust of Guru's lotus feet, I cleanse my inner mirror,
And sing of Raghuvir's pure glory, source of all four fruits.
Knowing my body's lacking, I call on Hanuman,
Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge; remove my pain and woes.
Hail Hanuman, ocean of wisdom, glory of the three worlds,
Ram's messenger, of boundless might, son of Anjani, wind-born.
Mighty warrior, strong as a thunderbolt, dispeller of evil thoughts,
Companion of good thoughts, golden-hued, handsomely adorned,
With earrings, curly hair.
A mace and flag in hand, the sacred thread upon his shoulder,
Son of Shiva, son of Kesari, radiance of the world, all bow.
Wise, virtuous, and skillful, ever eager to serve Ram,
A devotee of Ram's tales, within Ram, Lakshman, and Sita's hearts he dwells.
In subtle form, he showed himself to Sita, in fierce form, he burned Lanka,
In fearsome form, he slew demons, and completed Ram's tasks.
He brought the Sanjeevani, reviving Lakshman, and Raghuvir embraced him with joy.
Raghupati praised him highly, "You are my brother, dear as Bharat to me."
A thousand mouths sing your glory, thus did the Lord embrace him,
Sanak and others, Brahma and the sages, Narad and Saraswati with Sheshnag.
Yama, Kubera, and the guardians of the directions, who can describe your greatness?
You aided Sugriva, uniting him with Ram, granting him kingship.
Vibhishana followed your counsel, and the whole world knew him as the Lord of Lanka.
You swallowed the sun, thousands of leagues away, thinking it a sweet fruit.
Placing Ram's ring in your mouth, you crossed the ocean, without wonder.
All difficult tasks in the world become easy through your grace.
You are the guardian at Ram's door, none can enter without your permission,
All find happiness in your refuge, why then should one fear?
You alone possess your own brilliance, with your roar, the three worlds tremble.
Ghosts and evil spirits cannot come near when the great hero's name is chanted.
Disease vanishes, all suffering is relieved, when Hanuman, the brave one, is invoked,
Hanuman delivers from all perils, those who meditate on him with mind, action, and speech.
Ram, the king of ascetics, is served by you in all his tasks.
Whatever desire one may hold, they will receive the boundless fruit of life.
Your glory shines through all ages, the world is illuminated by it.
You are the protector of saints and sages, the destroyer of demons, beloved of Ram.
Giver of eight siddhis and nine treasures, blessed by Janaki's mother,
Ram's essence is with you, always a servant of Raghupati.
Through your devotion, one attains Ram, and forgets the sorrows of countless births.
At the end, one goes to Raghubar's city, where one is reborn as a devotee of Hari.
Do not fix your mind on other gods, serve Hanuman, and you will find all happiness.
All troubles are cut, all pains are removed, chanting Hanuman, the strong hero, without cease.
Hail, hail, hail Hanuman Gosai, bestow your grace like a divine Guru.
Whoever recites this one hundred times, is freed from bondage and finds great joy.
Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa, attains success, Gauri-Isa is witness.
Tulsidas, forever the servant of Hari, make your home within my heart, O Lord.
Son of the wind, remover of sorrows, a form of auspiciousness,
Reside in my heart, with Ram, Lakshman, and Sita, O King of the gods.
