Within my heart, save love's ache, naught remains,
My life, save devotion, nothing sustains.
Before your court, what offering can I bring?
Within my humble pouch, save love, no thing.
In your divine court, service is my grace,
O God, of my sins, take no account or trace.
I have but tears of sorrow to display,
My only offering on this judgment day.
These tears of rue, a cleansing, bitter rain,
That in their flowing, grant relief from pain.
For were they absent, life's harsh truth is this:
Save suffering and sorrow, nothing I can kiss.
