Thanks for the beautiful duet by two best playback singers.
A real treat for our ears. Loved it very much:)

bemused321 on Monday, January 26, 2009
You are welcome!

As I noted in the description, Madan Mohan here used music from Brahms' Hungarian Dance Number 2.

Since Brahms also used Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" theme as the basis for the last movement of his 1st symphony (and he acknowledged it by saying "any fool can see it"), perhaps, Madan Mohan can get a pass on this one!

A very melodious duet, thanks, bemused.

an absolutely marvellous gem.. thanks for posting this.. u r doing a great service to music lovers .. keep it up

jasiddiqi on Thursday, June 18, 2009
I just noticed that the first two lines of this melody match exactly with the song from Ek Phool do Mali "yeh pardah uthado zara mukhrda dikha do". it's obvious which one of these came first!

bemused321 on Friday, June 19, 2009
Great observation (listening)!

As you correctly noted, music director Ravi lifted the tune for the 1969 film Ek Phool Do Mali from this Aakhri Dao song of 1958 composed by Madan Mohan, who used the music from Hungarian Dance No. 2 (of 1868) by German composer Johannes Brahms, who based it on the folk songs of Hungarian Gypsies, who are believed to have emigrated westward from India in the 11 th century.

Could we now say that the circle has closed after 700 years?

Madsad1607 on Saturday, July 04, 2009
Bemused, your comment shows deep and wide knowledge. Comments like this make sharing such a pleasure. My thoughts go back to those nomads 900 years back - did their hearts also throb to lilting tunes like this? Just as flowed from them to Brahms to Madan to Ravi it has flowed through centuries - timeless, unbound by person or race, music flows on! The circle will loop again centuries after centuries.

This is one of the greatest duets that I have always loved in my life. I am glad to subscribe and extend a friend's invitation to the channel "bemused321" on account of uploading this melodious song.

ALL Music Directors of 50s and 60s were great. They all gave us many immortal songs.Sometimes they used any good tune to create a Hindi film song and that is fine. Ye mera deewana pan hey, sounds like Dekh hame awaaz na dena and Kate nahi katatey ye din ye raat sounds like Dhire chal dhire chal ae bhigi hava etc . It is ok.

apparaovv on Sunday, November 01, 2009
It just like ye raath bhighi bhigi of chori chori
The produser &actor Chandrasekher has not included on the advise of his friends.

Rafidas11 on Monday, November 02, 2009
Wonderful piece with two most malleable voice of Hindifilmmusic. The songs used to be part of the story telling, and the words were apt.

Coming to using tunes - many Hindi music directors used own tunes from previous songs. SJ used their own tunes (antara of yeh raat bheegi bheegi and md. rafi no. taqdeer kahaan le jayegi) (antara of meethi meethi baatonse bachna zara and the duet in Parayadhan Tu pyaar tu preet) and many more tunes that were lifted from Ron Goodwin's ARab

Arguably ONEOF THE BEST of duets from Indian melodies.

All Manna Dey duets are great, Thanks to youtube and lovers of good music, who care so much to take time and resources to post good music

lovehumanity on Sunday, May 02, 2010
@bemused321 haha.. even if he gets a pass on this song, will u let him go on his lifting of Sajjad sahab's tune of ye hawa ye raat ye chandni from Sangdil to be used in his Tujhe kya sunaoun main dilruba of the same song? I wont honestly :-)

chamogaa on Sunday, May 02, 2010
@bemused321. Crossing boundaries, fusion music, cultural exchange and other similar expressions are more in circulation now, but global borrowing may have started when a tribe for the first time raided another and abducted people from it ,or when different tribes just blended with each other over long treks. You quite rightly remind us of the later, more systematic paths of such diffusion. Thanks,bemused321.

bemused321 on Sunday, May 02, 2010
@lovehumanity Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Even though I admire Madan Mohan, I find it hard to understand his simply copying Sajjad sahab's tune. There are several other instances when he used western tunes, but this is a rare example of his using another Bollywood composer's tune. Very uncharacteristic indeed.

He does not get a pass on that one ... if the copyrights laws as they exist in the western countries were applied, he could have even gotten a lawsuit ;-(

Madan's tune: sa ni pa dha ma pa ma ga ma dha dha dha

Sajjad's tune: sa sa re sa ni dha ma ma pa dha pa ma ga

vsv1949 on Monday, July 19, 2010
Brahm's symphony was inspired by wandering Gypsys from Hungary who originated from India 2000 years ago (Punjab and Rajasthan particularly) so a circle is completed after 2000 years, MM being from Punjab.

nandu1f on Saturday, July 24, 2010
Revisit to recharge my heart. Madan Mohan composed some of the best emotive songs for Lata. This is one of those few love songs that capture the best of MM, Manna De and Lata's combined genius. I never saw the movie but all the video songs that I have watched from this movie were well placed and acted out. I wish someone can find and upload the video of this song.

RealMusicKing on Thursday, August 05, 2010
@vsv1949 Wah! Thank you! You said the truth. Surs, Raags all music was discovered in India. While Subcontinent enjoyed lavishly in Mahals and Qilas, Europe dwelled in mud houses till they reached Arab land and the Subcontinent and finally opened their eyes. Thank you again.

arvindpradhan on Wednesday, August 11, 2010
@bemused321 hey guys even as monster group as Beatles lifted a song straight.

Rmehtacpa on Monday, September 20, 2010
@bemused321 Can't say if indeed it was copy of Sajjad, Madan was a class in himself and this number is excellent.

@nandu1f Hello. Shankar Jaikishan were assistants to Husnlal & Bhagatram. A fact they never acknowledged during their lives. Shankar Jaikishan had Raj Kapoor on their side and luck. Once Jaikshan died in 1971, RK fired Shankar and their names faded out.

During their golden era, Shankar was good in tuning dance songs while Jaikishan composed most of the romantc songs / duets.

is any one have full video of this song .it must be picturised but not included for some unknown reasons this is my opinion it may be wrong.

Upon Madan Mohan's demise, actor Manoj Kumar said this "Music is well said to be the speech of angels, but Madan's was superior". Madan Mohan was a rare composer who composed extremely romantic film songs and ghazals. He had knowledge of hindi and urdu languages and poetry. He also had a thorough knowledge of instruments and it refected in his compositions. His was not what one would call "disposable music". In order enjoy, his tunes are to be heard in a relaxed atmosphere.

RealMusicKing on Sunday, March 13, 2011
@bemused321 Hello. Ravi copied quite a bit from Madan Mohan. Madan's "Na Hanso Hum Pe Zamane Ke Hain Thukraye Huwe" from Gateway of India 1957 was copied by Ravi in his "Is Bhari Duniya Mein Koi Bhi Hamara Na Huwa" from Bharosa 1964. That's just one example. He also copied from his master, Hemant Kumar and also from Naushad at various occasions.

soooooooooooo beautiful combo lata ji and madan ji. And mannadey also very good.

Lata made her debut as a playback singer not because of her voice, she came into limelight because her voice was utilized properly while composing songs by the contemporary music directors like Madan Mohan, Naushad, SJ, LP, Sajad Hayder, Roshan, KA etc. Why now Lata is not able to give us a single melodious song? Only because now music directors of panache and talent are not existing.
