Chitalkar Ramchadra on Mumtaz Ali (comedian Mehmood's father), Meena Kapoor
on Indumati (my guess), Shamshad Begum on Rehana, in ShehnaI (1947).
Chitalkar Ramchadra's music on Pyare Lal Santoshi's lyrics.

Ajit Bhai, You have such a great collection. I am looking for a song "O
Pawan Vage Se Udne Wale Ghode" by Lata from the Movie Jai Chittore Audio or
video. Please let me know. Thanks

Hats off to you Ajitbhai. I never thought that I would ever see video of
this old classic song. The song in the video clip is little different than
the two versions that I have. Thanks!

This funny song mocking at the western culture became so popular those days
that when the issue of selecting the National Anthem of India came for
discussion this song was jocularly suggested by some fun-loving people. The
film Shehnai was a box 0ffice hit and had a number of good songs. I
remember after seeing the film with my sister n brother in law at
Wellington cinema hall at Madras I insisted my brother to buy me a
harmonica like the one Mumtaz Ali played and he gave in to my demand!

robinu2008 on Sunday, June 28, 2009
Small world - I also lived in Wellington, Madras South Indian, 1950 to 1957. I remember one movie hall in Wellington and two Coonoor. The movie house in Wellington was owned by the Mehra family. I wonder if this is the same movie house.

kuckudk on Monday, June 29, 2009
This song I used to listen in 1952/53. Very funny song, very entertaining.
This must have been inspired by the English culture, as India was ruled by
British till 1947. Thank you very much Ajit for this lovely oldie.

Pankaj Ved on Monday, June 29, 2009
I bet Kishorekumar must have received some inspiration from this kind of
songs in his early years !

gaarva2 on Tuesday, July 07, 2009
chitalkar you were the best of all and will always be the best !!

cumrao on Sunday, August 16, 2009
Pity no one gave 5 stars to this evergreen song. A roaring hit in those
days, which is rarely equalled. so much was written on this song , the
orchestra and the compostion. It was meena kapoor. It was not because of
British ruling. The great C.Ramchandra was so creative innovative , he
experimented with different types of music and instruments, which no one
else dared. His musical knowledge was legendary.

Shreejisaab you seem to be a great fan of CR, as am I, my two most
favourite composers being CR and OPN. How did you manage to get this clip
from Karachi?

Rupa Dore on Thursday, September 24, 2009
My God ! How did you get this gem ? God bless you, Shreeji ! This very rare
movie version has Lalita Deolkar and Ameerbai; the 78 rpm, record has Meena
Kapur and Shamshad Begum ! Mr .Appa rao, you are great! I am sure you are a
great connoissuer of vintage music same as I try to be ! Who were the other
stars apart from Rehana, Dulari and Mumtaz Ali ? Do you remember ? NRI from
Los Angeles.

Rupa Dore on Sunday, September 27, 2009
Do you have the songs of 'Khidki " starring Rehana with music by CR . songs
'"Qismat hamarey saath hai, jalney waley jala karen !"? Those movies were
considered not suitable for us youngsters to see in those days ! Our
parents did not allow it ! ! Even the Indian Censors cut out parts of it !
How about "Sunhere din" , "Sargam" Rehaana with RajKapoor ? Please!

The Rare Classic Song. Thanks.

RealMusicKing on Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Here CR uses Meena Kapoor's voice. Meena Kapoor was Music Director Anil Biswas' wife. CR worked for Anilda in earlier days as his assistant.

Gajendra Khanna on Tuesday, August 17, 2010
@RealMusicKing Meena Kapoor ji's voice (and Shamshad ji's ) is used in the
record version and not in the film version. This trio has Chitalkar with
Lalita Deulkar and Ameerbai Karnataki .

Faraaj73 on Saturday, September 04, 2010
The staid Anil Biswas wasn't impressed with his former assistants effort even though his own earlier Hum Aur Tum Aur Ye Khushi was also Western music inspired. He called and berated C.Ramchandra asking what do you think you're trying to do. Ramchandra said I'm trying to not sound like you...

Many people are not aware that Chitalkar and C.Ramchandar are the same
person. He would use the name Chitalkar when singing, and C.Ramchandar when
giving music.
