@CyberSetan (post 2) (page 232 in GSKing's) ... "Vedic lanuage is poetic and highly imagistic. While antropomorphic symbolism is not dominant, it is still common and Vedic Gods have a human aspect. They are often described in human form .. the Vedic language clearly indicates that images were often in the minds of the worshippers of Vedic Gods as part of the prayer or meditation practices. (see post 3)

starsbydaylight on Tuesday, October 05, 2010
@CyberSetan (post 3) Some of these images appear in later times. The Vedic Sun God Savitar, with golden face, golden arms and hands, appears as the Golden Person Hiranmaya Purusha, of the Upanishads. .. contain other meditation images . have a basis in the Rig Veda .. Animal images and symbols are common in the Rig Veda, such as cow, bull, horse, eagle ... Vedic animals exist as symbols in their own right . presented in fantastic or mythic form .. The Vedic horse .(see p. 4)

@CyberSetan/(post 5) ... concentration and for devotional worship. . Islam and Protestant Christianity banished verbal images from formal representation but did not eliminate them as ideas because they are part of the natural language of the soul, which is more poetic than abstract. There is no idolatry inherent in formal representation. Just as verbal expression can be used to aid us in understanding, so can formal representation. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words .

starsbydaylight on Tuesday, October 05, 2010
@CyberSetan/ post 6/ Nor is there any lack inherent in purely verbal expression. To reduce the Word of God to only one book may also be a form of idolatry, as it limits truth which is infinite to a particular form . all creation as the word and form of the Deity . The Vedas . do not proclaim a single exclusive God opposed to any image of him. They proclaim a Divine Unity that embraces all multiplicity and encompasses all nature, which therefore has many symbolic forms that ...

@CyberSetan/post 7/ .. could easily be made into visual representations. As such, the Rig Veda derives from an era prior to the ornate imagistic religions of the Middle east and the monotheistic reaction against them. The Rig Veda reveals a religion from which both iconic and aniconic approaches could evolve in time and in which both are accepted."

@CyberSetan/ post 8/ So, I say Yes to using a statue of a Saint, Prophet, or Sage, for devotional practice. I am a student of Buddhism.
If we so wish we prostrate full length on the ground before a statue of the Buddha, even before a monk/nun who's teachings we attend. Why do we do this? Out of the greatest respect, and total gratitude we bow down to those people who in the past explained, and the people who at present explain, how to actualize our own divine nature. In that same prostration ...

starsbydaylight on Tuesday, October 05, 2010
@CyberSetan/ . while on the floor, we are reducing false pride, while also reverently bowing down to our innate, own, always pure, wisdom mind that is waiting to be set free, untainted purity that we have managed to bury under many many layers of delusional concepts, thus causing suffering for all that lives. I will not follow a book to the letter if part of it doesn't make sense. I wish all beings well, don't eat my friends the animals, love statues of the Buddha. This can only be good.

starsbydaylight on Tuesday, October 05, 2010
@shuaibafghan/Hi! You can read on the Internet all about Shirdi Wale Sai Baba. The logic behind expressing admiration for a great mystic, a great Saint, a Buddha, a Sage, ... is gratitude for what they did for us/the world, and generating a longing to become pure again oneself, and O SO kind, and a Blessing for All that Lives :^)

starsbydaylight on Tuesday, October 05, 2010
@MeNature Yes! All Saints reflect different aspects of the attributes of God. The more people open up their hearts to love and compassion for all that lives, the bigger the chance that a planetary catastrophe that otherwise might get a chance to come about will not happen. If only 17% of all people world wide think; May All Beings Love and Respect Each Other, we all will be safe! Let's all pray for the safety and happiness of All Beings :^) It helps!

MeNature on Tuesday, October 05, 2010
@starsbydaylight Exactly!!!! you said right!!!

giriisindahouse on Friday, October 08, 2010
@AbhishekRajaRamMohan I was like you, maybe I still am. I mean isn't it obvious? He's our guru but God? Its not just Shirdi Baba in this matter. That was till I met a group of people who completely devote themselves to him. I can't narrate the whole story but it was like things do happen as they pray for, every time!!!. I don't know its coz of their devotion or Baba's help. Obviously you still won't believe but all I can say is that this world works in a strange way. You gotta see it to believe.

You say don't worship those things which are natural or those which can be created. I have two questions.
God not "natural"? I think he is nature himself.
And, weren't the vedas not "created"? Why should we even listen to something as contradictory as this...

tiklupagrawal on Tuesday, November 23, 2010
@AbhishekRajaRamMohan
Simple definition of God? Where do read such stuff.

For me, God is "maryada purushottam". He is a role model - he follows his rules so that we may see and learn.

By saying that humans have limitations and God doesn't, do you imply that God is a hypocrite who makes rules for us but doesn't follow them himself.

My God is not a hypocrite.
