Rafi's versatility is displayed clearly in this song. Some argue about Rafi and Kishore, as to who was the better singer. Well, I don't think there is ANY competition. Kishore was good, very good, had a fantastic voice too, but there is no one else in the same league. Even Kishore himself agreed. He said in an interview that Rafi was untouched. Rafi even sang for Kishore in an old movie.

RIP Rafi! You make my day whenever I hear any of your songs!

Only the great Rafi could do justice to this wonderful composition.

Excellent song by Rafi Sahib.. It remind me of my childhood days though this song was made much earlier then i was born. One more thing I would like to share with everyone those who like this song. The other person with Dev Saab is hindi old films character artist " Rashid Khan ", who was very close to Dev Saab and you can see Rashid Khan in almost every film of Dev Saab. God Bless Dev Saab, Rafi Saab, S.D Burman, Johny Walker, Vijay Anaand and Rashid Khan !!

In 60's dev anand is evergreen hero only due to RAFI sahab evergreen songs..

genuinebombayite on Friday, May 18, 2012
The music for this movie was NOT Rajesh Roshan.it was S. D. Burman!

Rafi saab had the most beautiful voice of singers. But the peak of its beauty was in the early sixties. The evidence is in this song and the other songs he sang at that particular time in life. Its sweeter than honey.

A most enjoyable song on the essential but also corrupting role of money
in our lives. Money as mammon is a common old theme in our cinema songs.
This is the first clip in which I have seen Jagdish Raj( the one next to
Dev Anand and smoking a cigarette) playing a goon. More often he( like
Iftikhar) was typecast on the other side of the law, as a police officer.
Love the galaxy of stars playing themselves, presumably going to some movie
inauguration. Thanks, CS.

"raajo.n kaa raajaa rupa_iyaa " Well said in the beautifully crafted words
by Shailendra, complemented by fine music from SD Burman and singing in
inimitable style by Rafi Sahab; superb star performance, besides galaxy of
stars makes it highly enjoyable presentation. Thank you.

They're all versatile; SDB as composer, Rafi Sb as singer & Devanad as
actor. Though we're taught that human greatness does not lie in wealth or
power, but in character & goodness, and still we live in a world in which
40 men control wealth equal to that of nearly 80 countries. The cinema,
however, has tried to speak for those who are voiceless in their suffering
at the hands of the rich & powerful, but at the best, they can provide only
a moment of solace. A bitter reality. Thanks COS.

money ! without which one can't do anything in this world and which is also
the root cause of nearly all evils :) . you have a keen observation ! i did
not know that the name of the actor next to dev anand was jagdish raj
although i do remember and recognise iftikhar in his most common role of a
police officer . i loved watching the stars too ! even lata ji and rafi
saheb are present ! thank you da !

crazyoldsongs on Wednesday, November 28, 2012
shailendra could really write on everything in a most simple way ! and rafi
could sing any composition perfectly ! burman da was a genius too ! as the
stars are streaming in , the cost of the tickets to the movie premiere are
being raised by the black marketeers and the public is ready to pay more :)
thank you for liking this clip !

i feel rafi saheb sang some of his best songs for dev anand under the baton
of s d burman . and no one can challenge burman da's versatility whose
compositions never sounded similar ! you are right sir , that we are taught
that money is not everything but wealth and power play a major role in this
world and the first movie which comes to my mind , portraying exploitation
of the poor is ''do bigha zamin'', which still stands true. a bitter truth
indeed ! thank you for a nice comment sir !

Very interesting information regarding black marketeers. Thank you.

Apart from Jagdish Raj, Dev Anand and his sidekick Rashid Khan, I could
identify the following big names( some were called out by the crowd, of
course): Guru and Geeta Dutt, Kishore Kumar and his first wife Ruma Guha,
Sohrab Modi, Lataji, Moh'd Rafi, KanhayaLal, Saira Bano's mother Naseem
Bano, Rajinder Kumar, Mehboob Khan, Raaj Kumar, Dilip Kumar, and Nargis with
her step-brother Anwar Hussain. See how the young women go crazy upon
seeing DK! Did I miss any name?

I wonder if there will be anyone who could write like SHAILENDRA.

crazyoldsongs on Saturday, September 28, 2013
no one sir ! you give him a word or a subject and he would create a
beautiful poetry from it with eloquent simplicity ! thank you !

Very sweet & melodious song of black marketeers.

Ajay Arora on Thursday, November 06, 2014
It's very strange and very hard to explain and there is no plagrism or any
such sort of thing but the first thing which strikes me first while hearing
the song is the resemblance between the mukhda of this song and the antaras
of the famous song of the film 'Bobby' hum tum ek kamre mein band ho. Take
a look. In this song Rafi Sahab start singing Suraj ke jaise golai then his
co singer replied Golai. Cut to the song of movie Bobby. In one of the
antaras Shailendra Singh sings Aage hai ghanghor andhera. Then Lata Ji
replies Baba mujhe dar lagta hai. What do you think. Anyways what to say
about Rafi Sahab, SDB or Shailendra ji. These jewels are safely locked in
the hearts of the true music lovers. THANK GOD.

Very good song n first hindi film i watched beautiful songs - we were crazy
about Devanand in 60's.we can not listen this kind music, lyrics singer
these days .

R Nanjappa on Friday, July 17, 2015
This song is superb. Of course, we used to hear it on the radio those days,
but it is so much more pleasing when heard here. Rafi saab sounds so
incredibly sweet here- which Burmanda alone could do- see for example, 'Hum
bekhudi mein tum' or in Pyasa!
And what to talk of the great Shailendra! He was committed to human
values, and he wrote about them. In Kathputhli too, he wrote about the
false values of the lure of money: mini mini chi chi- rupayon ka chashma
chadavo, ye duniya dikhegi rangili, etc. Mana apni jeb se fakir hai, phi
bhi yaro dil ke hum amir hai; Jaana anjana kaun, apna begana kaun, apni dil
se hi pucho dil ko pehchana kaun..Who else could write like that! It is our
misfortune we lost him so early!
These golden greats would live in our hearts for ever.
