The interplay of light and darkness, clouds and the sun, the serenity of sitting by the river and watching it flow and the spirit of universality in the lyrics! absolutely brilliant!

vishwa deepak on Wednesday, April 22, 2009
This song is written by Gulzar not Prem Dhawan. Prem Dhawan wrote other
famous song "ae mere pyare watan"

There are many doubts about the writer of this song. Though it sounds like
Gulzar's writings. I checked the numberings in the original movie itself
and concluded that the lyricist is Prem Dhawan. Others may be true, I am
not sure about my conclsions.

Excellent! I've been hunting for this song for very long. Thanks so much :)

rajabundela on Friday, July 23, 2010
It's undoubtedly a Gulzar song. Ya Kurban and Ae mere pyaare watan were
Prem Dhawan's.

roganjosh2008 on Sunday, September 12, 2010
The original folk song was composed by Abbas Uddin - its a Bhatiali Bengali song.

Rest is all known.

@vishwadtanha 'ae mere pyare watan' was wriiten by Bahadur Shah Zafar when
he was banished to Burma by the britishers.

Rajesh Kochhar on Tuesday, February 15, 2011
@vishktl When Kabuliwala was made, Gulzar had not yet entered the Bombay
film scene. His first film was Bandini.

This is salil chowdhury classic. Not SD Burman

MyKaempfer on Wednesday, September 05, 2012
There is no doubt at all regarding the lyricist of this song. This song
"Ganga aaye kahan se" was written by Gulzar. The song "Aay mere pyare
watan" was written by Prem Dhawan.

MyKaempfer on Wednesday, September 05, 2012
Not at all !!! The song was composed by Salil Chowdhury.

Let's just stop arguing about who should be credited for this song, and
just enjoy these 4 and a half minutes of sheer beauty. :)

Whoever the music director be, Hemant Kumar has given his 100% for this
song and I liked the superb acting of the master actor Shri Balraj Sahani.
The story of this film was written undoubtedly by Ravindranath Tagore. I
could not remember the other actor's name in this clip, but the dialogues
at the end are heart rendering and plainly explaining the meaning of this
song. I do not know whether they are from Ravindranath's novel or written
by someone else.

Vijay Datta on Monday, February 04, 2013
Simply superb ! The song carries all the testimony of Hemantda's stature
and recognition as all time great.
