@venkimayyu this song was filmed sometime in 1963 or earlier. at that time she was not sick. in 1964 she separated from her husband and the film shooting stopped. it was resumed in 1969 when she was seriously ill. in the movie immediately after this song, she visits her friend then returns home. the remaining film after that was shot in 1969 onward and you can see she looks sick, weak, pale and older than her age. it was a great tragedy that the film could not be completed in 1964

@venkimayyu she was not sick during shooting of this song nor in the song "thare rahio" as both songs were filmed in 1963 or earlier. she fell sick after 1967 or so.they used a double ( padma khanna ) in the song "aaj hum apni duaoon ka asar ". All the scenes in which Raaj Kumar appears were shot in 1969 onward when she was seriously ill. in 1964 she broke off with her husband and the shooting of film stopped. it was resumed after 5 years and 12 days. what a tragedy...

This movie, this song is a living testatment to great days of cinema, when movies were made with painstaking exercise of retakes, careful camera movement, closeup exposures and meticulously perfect details were taken care of while directing such spectacular piece of song and dance. Meaningful poetry "ye chiragh bujh rahe hain meray sath jalte jalte...." The cadenced motion and steps of the dancing girls matching the rythm of music. Formidable majesty of a Nawab effused with resplendent/ setting.

Very beautiful. Meena Kumari died from liver cirrhosis and not a heart condition. However, I do think that she was a great actress. It was MADHUBALA who died of a heart defect in 1969. She had a ventricular septal defect which affected her heart and lungs. However, without treatment, she lived until she was 36 - which is very surprising as patients with this condition rarely survived into their early twenties. Look her up on Wikipedia.

it is sad to watch this knowing that Meena Kumari was very very sick when this song was shot. As I understand it, she had problems with her heart. I suspect this is why her movements are so delicate and gentle. In fact it was shortly after this that Meena Kumari passed away. This is a beautiful song and beautifully shot. All songs is Pakeeza are worthy of being savored repeatedly. Thank you for sharing this.

Pakeezah' was finally completed and released on 4 February 1972, but flopped at the box office. A few weeks later Meena was hospitalized in St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home, but passed away on March 31, 1972 due to liver problems. Shortly after her passing, the public took a renewed interest in 'Pakeezah' and the film subsequently went on to become a hit.

This song's music was composed by Great Ghulam Mohammed. But many people still thinks that the composer is Noushad. Ghulam Mohammed was no more When the film was released in 1972. He composed 12 songs for this movie and the director used his 6 songs for this film. Later the other songs used for another album. !!!
