Lyrics / Video of Song : Ab Ke Baras Bhejo Bhaiya Ko Baabul

ab ke baras bhej bhiya ko baabul saavan ne lijo bulaay re
lautegi jab mere bachapan ki sakhiyaan dejo sadeshaa bhiyaay re
ab ke baras bhej bhiyako baabul

ambuva tale phir se jhule padege rimajhim padegi phuhare
lautegi phir tere aangan me baabul saavan ki thadi bahaare
chhalake nayan mora kasake re jiyara bachapan ki jab yaad aae re
ab ke baras bhej bhiyako baabul

bairan javaani ne chine khilaune aur meri gudiya churaai
baabul ki mai tere nazo ki paali phir kyo hui mai paraai
bite re jag koi chithiya na paati na koi naihar se aaye, re
ab ke baras bhej bhiyako baabul saavan ne lijo bulaay re
lautegi jab mere bachapan ki sakhiyaan dejo sadeshaa bhiyaay re
ab ke baras bhej bhiyako baabul

I wanted to share this video with my son daughter (who have grown up outside of India) to enjoy the intense sentiments played out by Asha within Bimal Roy's incomparable movie-making. But the shameful comments by by some immature and unthinking listeners precludes that option for me. I am sure most other listeners feel the same way. I don't know how to delete those tasteless comments. Bellztoll ji, can you please upload this video again to remove their dirty smudges?

Bandini was the tenth highest grosser of the year and was declared a 'Semi Hit' at the Indian Box Office, though it received not just critical acclaim but also sweeped that year's Filmfare Awards, winning six awards in all including the top awards of Best Film and Best Director, as well as Best Actress, and is still considered a landmark movie of the 60s, especially being last major outing of film director Bimal Roy, a master of realism.. Thanks for sharing ..

A very touching song from a very touching movie - a tale of a sufferings of an Indian woman who has been imprisoned and is longing for freedom. I have listened to this number a couple of time as well as the original track of Asha jee. The comparison of two performances of these two artists is no less touching. Nowadays we rarely come across this type of songs and accompanying music .Congrats Jay jee for this fabulous selection and doing justice to it.

As someone born in late 70s, and brought up on "modern mediocrity" of "Bollywood", I have to agree with you. There are very few movies now that are worth watching, specially for an expat like me. Guru and Swades come to mind. Song of the old were truly written by poets, sung by true artist singers, and music was worth listening. Not this modern 200 beats up minute mania. Thank you for sharing this video and for the translation.

@kchopra4080able I have listened to Jagjeet/Chitra Singh ji's rendition of 'vo kaagaz ki kashti' many a time, with great deal of fascination and awe... Yes, Asha ji's verve and versatlity shall remain unmatched... Chopra ji, many thanks for taking the time to listen and I am so pleased by your perceptive coompliments. I loved singing it... When you find time, do listen to some of my other renditions. Regards Jayanthi

Excellent rhymed translation, Ektajiv, of this moving lyric. I agree with all those who said it is difficult to restrain tears when listening to this song ,for it resonates with many human experiences and memories . The words, the music and the voice all blend seamlessly to stir one's heart and soul. The trio involved in the number shine together. Thank you, Bellztoll, for sharing the clip.

Refrain and first verse: Just for this year, father, send brother; send for me in the rainy season. When my childhood friends return, send a message for me. Once again swings will be hung from the mango tree, and the rains will fall. Once again, father, the cold, lively rains will return to your courtyard. My eyes brim over and my heart is wounded when I remember my childhood days.

@yuanyuanyuanyin Yuan, some people have this art of making someone "special" and you are one of them. Thanks for your lovely comment. Ye gaana hi aise hai. Very touchy and emotional... I have sung it twice for two difft tracks. I have also posted that as a video response. The other one is in higher pitch. Hope you like it. Have a great weekend :).
